The number of mothers and newborns in low resource countries who die or suffer injury or illness due to pregnancy- and childbirth-related causes is staggering. Most of these consequences could be avoided with comprehensive reproductive health care, skilled care during and immediately after childbirth, and emergency obstetric care.

The IWHP is engaged in a number of programs working to ensure that every woman has access to essential care before, during, and after childbirth. By training healthcare professionals through the ALARM International Program, working with professional ob/gyn associations in developing countries, and monitoring our progress, the IWHP is working to ensure that women’s health needs are being met.
