ALARM International Program
The ALARM International Program (AIP) is a training and mobilizing tool for health professionals involved in the delivery of essential obstetrical care in low resource countries. Unlike the ALARM Canada course, the AIP is a 5 day program that is taught within a Sexual and Reproductive Rights framework which also includes a full day workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation that introduces the participants to “Maternal Death Audits”. The content of the ALARM International Program is derived from evidence-based medicine and is currently maintained by SOGC’s ALARM International Committee. The AIP is endorsed by the Partnership for SM/NH and the World Health Organization as a tool to ensure skilled attendance.
The course is taught in country by a team of SOGC staff and volunteers with medical expertise. The ALARM International Program has been delivered in Benin, Ethiopia, Gabon, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Kosovo, Mali, Mexico, the Philippines, Uganda, Ukraine, Yemen, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, and programs are in development in a number of other countries.
