Family Planning in China

Thanks to a traditional preference for sons, China's policy limiting the number of children permitted to a family has resulted in a gender imbalance across the country. Sex-selective abortion has become a serious problem. A new, less restrictive policy in Hainan Province, including advocacy and incentives for families with daughters, has started to show results and a closer gender balance.
