Eliminating Female Genital Mutilation: An Interagency Statement

Female Genital Cutting (FGC) is a practice that involves the removal or injury of part or all of the external female genitalia for non-medical reasons. Affecting between 100 and 140 million girls and women worldwide, with an additional 3 million girls at risk annually, FGC is a widespread practice that violates womens basic human and reproductive rights. This inter-agency statement calls on states, national and international organizations, civil society and communities to work towards ending FGC.
